The aquatic ecosystem

The aquatic ecosystem is not as valued as it should be. If about 75% of Earth is covered by water shouldn't we make a bigger effort to protect it? The greenhouse effects are changing the climate of the Earth which in turn is warming the waters, depriving many species of much needed nutrients and triggering deadly coral coral-bleaching events. Unusually high temperatures this year could speed up the destruction of some of the most important habitats in the world. This can and has had devastating effects on the population of many large predators, like sharks and swordfish. This could seriously put the natural food web out of whack. Over fishing is also a huge problem, and if you'll believe it fishermen are going farther away from shore and fishing farther down on the food chain to try and hide what a big problem this is! Something to kin of think about is of all the biomes we studied in ecology so far this year only one of them was an underwater community, the coral reef. This tells me that information about underwater habitats is NOT being passed along very well. Just remember the next time you don't recycle a can, or dump chemicals down the drain, every living thing under the water is the same as up here. There are herbivores, omnivores and carnivores the same as on land, just a little more distant. So please keep our ENTIRE environment in mind.

Power Bands?

Personally I've seen these everywhere and always thought," how silly is that"? About 1 week or so ago I went to a store and saw that they had them. I read some of the signs and one said" ask me to give you the test!" so I went ahead and did it. They  had me stand on one foot and they tried to get me off balance, they did then they gave me the power band and did it. I AM 95% POSITIVE THAT THEY DID NOT TRY AS HARD THAT TIME! Now that my burst of rage is over I'll continue. Next they kind of thumb wrestled me and they won because they leaned thier body weight on me. Yup I won't mess up the page with more caps, but I really don't think they tried as hard. So as you can probably guess by now i do not think these work(AT ALL).

If the power bands work then people should be more fit when wearing them. If I were to test this I wouldn't do the same thing as the Power Band company does because, well the Power Band company designed it, most likely so that it makes them look good. What I would do is I would ask for the gym class testing scores. I would record the average of the scores of Encore A and the averages of Encore B. Then after a few weeks I would have them do the tests again. Encore B with the bands and Encore A without. If the second score for Encore B were significantly better I might believe in Power Bands as long as Encore A didn't improve at about the same rate.

You should always look at all sides of an experiment because if there's an argument chances are that the other side has some pretty good proof. If you don't see what they have to say well you're side of the experiment will probably either look silly or be inconclusive. Plus if you might save yourself some trouble and see that the experiments already been done. So you should ALWAYS research and look at all sides of and experiment/argument.

science class questions

This is an interview with the on and only Madison Thomas! We're here today to ask her some questions that her science teacher, Mr.Whipp assigned her. Our first question is this; Madison, what did you enjoy most about your summer break?
Madison- well Fred my summer was rather boring, i did enjoy going to Kings Island and I went one time with my friend Allie and it was alot of fun.

Fred- thank you, the next question is what do you like about coming back to school?
Madison- I'm really excited about tennis team practices and matches. I'm hoping to get to play first singles. Also it's really cool seeing all my friends because half of them dyed thier hair really different. haha i tryed to but it didn't go over with my mom verry well :P

Fred- okay and our last question is what do you like about being an 8th grader so far?
Madison- welll it's hard to tell so far but i hope that its fun. i like that we get to walk to lunch outside. i's noce because usually after school i go outside and get one of those kinda headachs from the sun but this year since we get to go outside a bit in the middle of the day its not as big of a change.
